DescriptionAccording to researchers, two out of three survivors will be revictimized during their lifetime. During this webinar participants will learn more about working with survivors who have experienced repeated incidents of sexual violence.  Participants will learn about the impact of Complex Post Traumatic Stress (C-PTSD) symptoms.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completing this session, participants will

  • Define complex trauma and differentiate it from single incident trauma.
  • Recognize and identify symptoms of complex trauma and the unique ways they present with survivors of sexual violence.
  • Understand the neurobiology of repeated sexual violence exposure and develop skills to work with survivors' unique needs. 

Instructor

Crystal Garcia

Crystal M. Garcia is a survivor leader with 20+ years of experience working with trauma survivors. She is the Content Coordinator at TAASA and specializes in Trauma-Informed Care. Crystal is the recipient of the 2013 TAASA Community Engagement Award and the 2016 NSVRC Visionary Voice Award. She is a dynamic speaker, activist, solo mom, and an expert in health equity and socially responsible leadership. Crystal is a Texas Tech alumnus with a degree in Health, a double minor in Exercise and Sports Science, and Substance Abuse Studies. She earned her master's degree in Population Health Management from The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health in 2017 and is pursuing her Doctorate in Public Health at Capella University.
