Description & Objectives

Continuing Education Hours: 1 CE for LPC, SW, LMFT, and Psychologists - NBCC Approved

Description: The concept of gaslighting involves the manipulation and mental control of one person by another. Although the term has been around since the 40s, within the past decade, gaslighting has become a mainstream word to describe a spectrum of behaviors that may not always align with the original definition and ongoing subsequent damage that gaslighting incurs. As the term gaslighting is increasingly being used these days, it begs the question…Do individuals understand the effect of this type of emotional abuse? This workshop delves into the insidious world of gaslighting and its influence on survivors, particularly those who have endured intimate personal violence. By going beyond the surface of the popular term, the presenter participants will provide insight into recognizing gaslighting techniques and their impact on individuals, including common negative cognitions survivors face. The presenter will empower attendees to become effective allies in supporting survivors' journey to healing and reclaiming their identities by highlighting what needs to be identified and addressed in order to support those who have experienced this type of abuse.
