DescriptionTestifying can often feel like a nightmare for therapists and their clients. However, understanding and preparing in advance for the process is the key to confidence. In this training you will learn about the legal process, common terms, discuss the different types of witnesses that you might be requested to be in court, how to testify in a professional and confident manner, and how to prepare your client for telling their story. You will leave this training feeling ready to rock the stand as well as help guide your clients in a confident and supportive manner. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will learn the language of the court room.  
  • Attendees will gain understanding about the different types of testimony. 
  • Attendees will leave with a plan for preparing themselves and their clients to testify with confidence and ease.

Instructor

Melissa Harrison

Melissa Harrison is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor and the Clinical Director at the Irving Family Advocacy Center. Melissa is a supervisor, therapist, international speaker, consultant, and mentor to therapists across the country. She has specialized in child abuse and complex trauma for the past 15 years and believes strongly in the power of educating professionals about how to provide trauma informed care. Melissa is certified in EMDR and is an EMDRIA approved Consultant in Training. She is trained in TF-CBT, Polyvagal Theory, somatic interventions, play therapy, and works to integrate a holistic approach into all sessions and in the way that she leads her interns and staff.
