Description & Objectives

Continuing Education Hours: 2 CEs for LPC, SW, LMFT, and Psychologists - NBCC Approved

Description: Many clients rely on their faith as a source of support; however, domestic abuse & coercive control can deeply harm the faith of the client. Some churches or faith communities enter into collusion with the abuser through either lack of knowledge, poor theology, or actual malice of their own. Therapists can help clients navigate these tricky spaces and maintain faith as a key resource in healing and recovery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand ways faith can become weaponized by abusers and collusive systems.
  • Participants will learn skills to help clients explore their faith and questions that may arise as a result of abuse.
  • Participants will learn how to create and participate in multidisciplinary teams that include clergy or other faith-based resources.
