DescriptionThis presentation will provide participants with knowledge of Title IX law, the history of Title IX and recent updates, and what community members, law enforcement, and higher education professionals can (and must do) to report and support survivors of sexual assault, discrimination, harassment, and stalking on college campuses.

Learning Objectives:

  • Review the history of Title IX 
  • Provide updates on Title IX law in the United States and Texas 
  • Review cases from higher education institutions as case studies for brief activity 
  • Discuss how to report cases of sexual assault, discrimination, harassment, and stalking to higher education institutions 
  • Showcase the resources at the University of North Texas Dallas, the Case Management Model, and the importance of BIT teams.

Instructor

Teresa Espino Parnell

Teresa Espino Parnell is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 8 years of clinical experience in higher education, domestic violence agencies, and private practice. Teresa’s passion lies in working with emerging adults experiencing depression, grief and loss, stress, anxiety, crisis, relationship issues, trauma recovery, and phase of life concerns. Teresa currently works at UNT Dallas, where she serves as the Director of the Counseling & Wellness Center. Mrs. Parnell oversees clinical services, provides individual counseling services to undergraduate and graduate students, facilitates wellness education programs with campus and community partners, and serves on various committees across campus to advocate for mental health services and initiatives.
