Description: Discover the benefits of therapeutic yoga to help cultivate awareness and build self regulation skills through the mind-body connection. With a foundation rooted in trauma theory, neuroscience, and attachment theory, therapeutic yoga supports trauma recovery by creating an opportunity for participants to experience a felt sense of safety in the body. During this session, there will be an opportunity to engage in a therapeutic yoga practice of noticing body sensations, making choices, and taking action.  

Learning Objectives:

Participants will be able to: 

  • Identify how trauma affects the body 
  • Understand the mind body connection and its role in trauma treatment 
  • Explain the research results of yoga as an adjunctive treatment for PTSD 
  • Describe the difference between mainstream yoga & therapeutic yoga 
  • Learn the benefits of therapeutic yoga for trauma recovery

Michelle Martin, LPC, is a compassionate counselor specializing in trauma and a registered yoga teacher with a private practice in Arlington, Texas. Michelle specializes in creating a nurturing therapeutic space tailored to the unique needs of women who are trauma survivors. She is committed to providing a secure haven where clients can not only heal but also cultivate the essential skills and resilience necessary to navigate life's challenges. Michelle’s counseling approach is tailored to each individual client and rooted in evidence-based therapies, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and therapeutic yoga.
