(1 CE for LPC, SW, LMFT, and Psychologists) Recorded in July 2026
Continuing Education Hours: 1 CE for LPC, SW, LMFT, and Psychologists - NBCC Approved
Description: Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence-based, body-oriented approach that supports trauma recovery by prioritizing safety, choice, and empowerment. This presentation is designed for counselors, advocates, and helping professionals who support female survivors of violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, and other interpersonal trauma. The session will explore how trauma, particularly violence against women, impacts the nervous system, body awareness, and sense of agency, and why talk-based approaches alone may not fully address the embodied effects of trauma. Participants will be introduced to the core principles of Trauma Sensitive Yoga, including invitational language, present-moment awareness and an emphasis on restoring choice, and will learn how this approach differs from traditional yoga or exercise-based practices. Using a survivor-centered, collaborative approach, the presentation will include applied examples and brief experiential components to demonstrate how Trauma Sensitive Yoga can support regulation, reconnection with the body, and empowerment for women healing from violence. The session will also address ethical considerations, accessibility, and scope-of-practice boundaries, as well as guidance on when Trauma Sensitive Yoga may be integrated into trauma support services or offered through referral. Key takeaways include increased confidence in discussing body-based options with female survivors of violence, a clearer understanding of Trauma Sensitive Yoga’s role within trauma support and advocacy settings, and practical insight into how helping professionals can support healing that honors safety, autonomy, and individual pacing.
