Description & Objectives

Continuing Education Hours: 1 CE for LPC, SW, LMFT, and Psychologists - NBCC Approved

Description: This authentic presentation from 2 veterans and sexual assault survivors explores the application, and lack thereof, of Evidence-Based Practices (EBP) for Military Sexual Trauma (MST) treatment. They share how the minimal use of EBP has long-lasting impacts that only increase the difficulty of transitioning to civilian life following the military, contributing to the high rate of suicide of veterans. Additionally, they share best practices in serving and communicating with MST survivors and their families.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define Military Sexual Trauma (MST)
  • Identify the military and veteran population in Texas and their unique needs
  • Increase awareness of the lack of EBP in the military and the VA Health Care System (HCS)
  • Introduction to Retaliation and Institutional Betrayal
  • Provide tools to help veterans
