Description: This webinar will explore the impact of working with trauma survivors and crime victims on service providers.  We’ll explore aspects of burnout, compassion fatigue, and vicarious traumatization and also discuss ideas for protecting ourselves from these occupational hazards. 

Learning Objectives: 

Upon completion of this webinar participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Vicarious Trauma
  • Recognize factors that contribute to Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Vicarious Trauma
  • Identify characteristics of resilience and a plan to strengthen resistance to Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, and Vicarious Trauma

Instructor

MSSW, LCSW-S Derrelynn Perryman

Derrelynn Perryman, MSSW, LCSW-S, is a Clinical Social Worker in private practice working with trauma survivors and first responders. She is also a long-time victim advocate who has worked in law enforcement, prosecution, corrections, and non-profit agencies with survivors of trauma. She is adjunct faculty at UT Arlington and Texas Christian University, a licensed TCOLE instructor and Approved CISM instructor. She is a former President of the Texas Victim Services Association. In 2015 the Governor appointed her to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice where she is now serving a second term and is Vice Chair.
